Located in tranquil surrounds on the north edge of Newbury, Shaw House is a Grade I listed multi-purpose event venue which is open to the public to explore during the school holidays and at weekends between February and September.

Completed in 1581 the manor has survived centuries of political and social tension. Despite this visitors have included several kings and queens on their royal progresses around the country as well as courtiers travelling from London to Bath.

In 1644 Charles I established his headquarters within the manor during the second battle of Newbury with fighting staged as close as the gardens.

At the outbreak of WW2 the house was requisitioned by the War Office as accommodation for troops. Following the bombing of the Newbury Senior Council in 1943 it took on its final role as a school. Having stood empty for over a decade, a major restoration programme helped to rescue the building from near dereliction and left it refurbished and restored to its former glory.
