Quadrant House: A mixed-use office building situated in Caterham town centre acquired by Tandridge Council in order to preserve space for local businesses, supporting local economic growth and achieving a sustainable refurbishment.
The external green wall along the main elevation has become a bold centrepiece of the high street, enhancing bio-diversity and improving air quality. The wall is irrigated using harvested rainwater off of the main roof.
In order to improve accessibility larger lifts and escape stairs were installed.
Phase 1 of the project comprised the refurbishment of communal areas including new toilets and showers.
As additional funding became available, Phase 2 embarked on the thermal improvements to the building including new windows and doors as well as the refurbishment of unoccupied office suites, terraces and the green wall.
The project has provided attractive and affordable workspaces for local businesses, new communal areas and an improved appearance for the retail units at ground level.
The design also enhances the environmental performance of the building. BTP worked closely with Erect Architecture in order to implement best practice retrofit measures. The transition to all-electric heating and cooling will be aided by on-site electricity generation.
