Phase one of the upgrade to the Bridgen Science Building has been completed as part of Kingston Grammar School’s wider redevelopment programme. The project is designed to enhance the existing school site and teaching environments, while also improving energy efficiency across the campus.

The development will comprise 24 dedicated science classrooms and laboratories arranged over three floors, providing approximately 3,000 m² of modern educational space.

The works, carried out during the 8-week summer holiday window by main contractor ACS presented a challenging deadline in order to have the building ready for the new academic term.

Phase one was successfully handed over before the start of term with the upgraded facilities benefitting from:

  • Nine new laboratories and science classrooms

  • Two new computer classrooms

  • Three chemistry laboratories & science classrooms

  • Enhanced energy efficiency through LED lighting and SMART controls

  • Complete decarbonisation, removal of fossil fuel heating & cooling

The dedicated centre of excellence will help continue to inspire and empower the next generation of scientists, engineers and technological innovators. KGS

Work continues on the £6million refurbishment with phase two currently in progress which will see the installation of a Science Garden, Study Pools and a new external facade. Completion is schedules for the Autumn term 2026.
